Kicked a hot rock aside on the beach, and US silver dollar was Vanquished, by the Vanquish!

06 Nov 2021

It had been a long day hunting a beach on the east coast of Vancouver Island, BC, Canada, back in May this year (2021) I found some clad change throughout the day, it was nice, but I just knew there had to be something better. Hard to explain, but I had a hunch in my gut. I had already been out for about 4 hours hunting, I decided to hit a new area of the beach. I was using the Vanquish 540 coin mode, with all metal on. I was working an area of sand mixed with rocks, there was this big hot rock (you could hear the whom, whom sound in all metal). So as I positioned my coil upwards in the air, to kick this rock aside, after the rock went flying away, I put my coil back down (where the rock was), swung it, "BING, BING, BING" high 30 range target ID; I then rotated around the target (360 degrees) swinging the coil, the target kept ringing in. I used the pinpoint feature on the Vanquish 540, and was able to see where to put my hole. Dug into the area around the rocks/sand mix, and about 6" to 8" down, saw this beautiful US Peace Dollar! I was really thrilled, and stoked! I had to contain my excite as I had people nearby on the beach, not wanting to draw unnecessary attention. I have since gone back and found more stuff, will post more stories about it. The coin was exposed to salt water for a very long period of time, I had a coin dealer verify that it is 100%, a real US 1935 Peace Dollar. The coin dealer encouraged me to leave the tarnish on it. Don't clean it, just leave it the way it is. This experienced helped a lot in the long journey I have been on. Unfortunately, I have also developed an intense metal detecting addiction from this experience, and have dropped 30 pounds from getting out, and getting more active.
