X-TERRA finds Pre Decimal Pocket Spill.

15 Feb 2014

Hi, I have been detecting for about 18 months, I don't get time to do as much as I would like so I often take my X-TERRA 705 in the car so when the chance is there to sneak in some detecting, I take it. I had to take my wife to a physio appointment in Sydney so whilst I was waiting for her I got my X-TERRA 705 out of the car and decided to detect a city park. I only had about 40 minutes and well I got under way and was not having any luck, just finding junk targets. Well my luck changed when I got a hit and dug about 6 inches in soft dark soil. I saw the glint of silver and was lucky enough to find a florin. Well I had never found a florin before and was quite excited so I ran the X-TERRA 705 over the hole again and to my surprise I found another two florins and a shilling all in the same hole. I'm guessing back in the day someone sat just there and the coins spilled from their pocket. (2 x 1942, 1 x 1922 florins and 1 x 1943 Shilling) Well my luck didn't stop there I continued detecting for a bit when I got another hit about 2 metres from the first hole and dug up the 'Erskine' plate. At first I didn't know what it was but after some research it turns out 'Erskine' were a motor vehicle distributed with Studebaker in Melbourne in the 1920's. The plate was attached by the dealer to the firewall of Erskine vehicles. (Turner bros) So there you have it, thanks to my '705' taking the wife to her appointment was a quite a great day out.
