Minelab Launches New SMS Verification System For GPX Series Detectors
As part of our Genuine Minelab, Genuine Performance, Stop Counterfeits campaign, we are pleased to announce the latest development in our anti–counterfeit activities - the introduction of a new SMS verification system for our GPX Series detectors.
This is a major update to our current anti-counterfeit measures and will enable you to independently verify your Minelab GPX Series detector by SMS wherever you are in the world. We've produced a new 'Verify your Minelab' brochure which also contains a handy small security viewing strip for your convenience (click here) to help you understand how to use the three methods of verification. Available in six languages.
The three methods of verifying Minelab product are:
1. Security Labels (large and small)
2. On-line verification system (through Authorised Dealers and Distributors only)
3. SMS verification system
For SMS simply follow the step by step brochure guidelines on the specific GPX product information you need to send by SMS to a dedicated Minelab number and wait for the SMS response. Click here to view the instructional video which is available in six languages (Arabic, English, French, Spanish, Portuguese & Russian).
The latest brochure is FREE and is available from your nearest Minelab Authorised Service Dealer / Distributor or from Minelab directly. Click Where To Buy to find your nearest Authorised Minelab Dealer or email minelab@minelab.ie with your address details and one will be mailed to you directly.
For more information on each of these verification procedures please click here.

Large scale Police raid shuts down ‘factory’ fabricating counterfeit Minelab gold detection products
In a major Dubai police operation led by 1st Lieutenant Khalid Abdulla Quraiban Al-Muhairi, counterfeit Minelab product with a potential market value of AED5.9million (US$1.6m) was seized from an apartment complex operating as a makeshift ‘factory.’
The raid revealed that counterfeit parts were assembled and packed at the apartment complex before being sold in the open market as premium Minelab GPX Series gold detectors. Those arrested at the scene and in the aftermath of the raid are now awaiting prosecution by the UAE authorities.
The Genuine Minelab; Genuine Performance; Stop Counterfeits campaign is committed to protecting the interests of customers by safeguarding the authenticity and quality of Minelab products and brands.
Speaking from Australia, Minelab’s General Manager Peter Charlesworth said:
“This raid has come about following an intense period of investigation. Minelab, like many leading worldwide brands has had to develop innovative strategies against counterfeit manufacturers based in China that sell direct to our developing markets and through major hubs such as Dubai.
Our customers want Genuine Performance that only Genuine Minelab product can deliver. We are committed to our strategies and this significant result in Dubai reflects our intent. I’d like to commend Dubai CID and our partners for their diligence and professionalism throughout this operation.”
Minelab has introduced a range of new security labels designed for usage on the control boxes and coils of its gold detection products and has just recently introduced a new SMS verification system.
Sheila Kelleher, General Manager of Minelab EMEA explains:
“Customers across the world now have the opportunity to check if a GPX Series detector is Genuine before they buy through our new SMS verification system. By simply texting the product’s serial number and the hidden code revealed by the security viewing strip to us, we will verify by text that you are purchasing Genuine Minelab product. This new initiative is accessible and easy to use and so far, we have had excellent participation across the globe”.
A quick guide to the SMS verification system can be viewed on our youtube channel.

Counterfeit Awareness Update
We are aware of the latest attempts by counterfeit manufacturers to copy our Genuine Minelab Brand Protection Security labels featured on our Gold detector products.
Our GENUINE MINELAB; GENUINE PERFORMANCE; STOP COUNTERFEITS campaign aims to protect the interests of our Valued Customers and Authorised Dealers by safeguarding the authenticity and quality of our products and brand.

HOW TO OBTAIN YOUR VIEWER
Viewers are now freely available. Ask your local Authorised Minelab Dealer for your Viewer or email your local Minelab office (contact details below) and we will despatch one to you immediately. We encourage you to use this viewer to verify GENUINE MINELAB products.
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
- Our products contain cutting edge technology which means that you, our customers, always know that you are buying the highest performance products whether it is for business or leisure – inferior quality products from counterfeiters lead to frustration and disappointment as they cannot perform as well as a Minelab.
- Counterfeit products do not come with the same after sales support and guarantees. GENUINE MINELAB comes with a 3 year transferable warranty and a 7 day no questions asked replacement guarantee (for faulty products).
- Counterfeit products do not give back to the local community. When a customer buys a counterfeit, the only winner is the counterfeiter. We work to ensure that communities benefit from our products, whether that’s through ongoing training, after sales support, or creating jobs and opportunities.
