GPZ 7000 Warranty statement regarding non-approved 3rd party coils

GPZ 7000 Product notice and warranty statement

We have identified a common fault across a number of GPZ 7000 gold detectors recently returned to our Service Department. With further investigation we have determined that the connection of non-approved coils caused these unique symptoms.

The use of non-Minelab approved coils on your GPZ 7000 can cause irreparable damage to your detector. We have identified the following external symptoms as being caused by connection of non-approved coils:

  • Every time the GPZ 7000 is turned on, a “Coil not connected” message can be displayed on the screen.
  • The GPZ 7000 will not properly ground balance or ferrite balance when the Ground Balance trigger is pressed. This balance point will then rapidly drift, requiring frequent re-balancing.

If Minelab determine that the connection of non-approved, third-party coils have caused a fault then that fault will not be regarded as a warranty repair and the owner will have to cover the cost of the repair. In our experience this is likely to require replacement of the control box which can be costly.

Be aware that Minelab coils and Minelab approved coils are designed and have been extensively tested to be compatible with the GPZ 7000 and to operate within a strict set of parameters. GPZ 7000 coils are also individually calibrated and hold that calibration on an embedded memory device.

Minelab strongly suggests to only use Minelab branded or Minelab approved coils when detecting with your GPZ 7000 and to be wary of detectors that display the symptoms described above.
