Within a couple of weeks I was on my way back to Victoria with hopes of finding ‘the big one’. A couple of mates put me on to an area where they had done exceptionally well, so I was pretty excited and couldn’t wait to get there.
I had been there for a couple of hours with the sun beating down and all I had to show for it was about a dozen pieces of lead shot and crap. I was starting to feel my concentration drifting a bit, then as if someone turned on the snake switch in the course of half an hour I saw 5 brown snakes, got the jitters and had to vacate the area. This led me to explore some diggings that I had researched as a bit of a back-up plan and on arrival it was great to see the area was a lot more open and so less chance of snakes I hope. I cranked up the GPZ 7000 and it was the same story as my previous trip. Lots of small pieces of lead etc. started to pop up before I got a solid signal and scored a nice conglomerate piece from amongst the gravel at about 5 inches deep with a beautiful piece of colour sticking out of the corner. About 2 feet away I got another piece from about 2 inches that also had ironstone on it.
I was starting to notice a bit of a pattern, that at all of the sites I have been to there were plenty of targets. Now given how many detectors have been over these areas, either people have missed a lot of targets or the GPZ 7000 is now finding them. I tend to lean to the latter because there are a lot of very good operators out there. I am still a novice at gold detecting and feel that this detector has been the key difference in helping me to start finding gold.
So my first impressions of the GPZ 7000 were right, it is a beast of a machine. It is so simple to use and has given me greatest confidence that if I walk over the gold now I know that I am going to find it. Each trip out I am getting to know the machine so much better and believe that there will be a lot of gold found by a broad range of people with the 7000. My gold fever is growing, my confidence is growing and so are the sizes of my gold nuggets with the latest piece being close to 2 grams!
