As I live in South Australia I often feel I was born in the wrong state when it comes to chasing gold. Friends of mine from all over Australia are always telling me about a patch they found and how much they got on the weekend etc. This always leaves me pondering how good it would be to live closer to where the high gold bearing areas are. When it comes to gold, South Australia has only produced a drop in the bucket compared to other states but if you put in the hard yards there are still some nice bits to be found. I recently went to a much hunted out area (because that’s all we have here) to see what the GPZ 7000 could find.
I concentrated on an area that had plenty of gravel wash and quartz visible amongst the diggings as this is where I have found most of my gold so far. I was surprised again that there were plenty of the usual targets of lead and ferrous around and I can only put this down to the GPZ finding targets that shouldn’t be there in heavily detected ground. I don’t mind finding these targets for two reasons; firstly they keep me interested and secondly, as annoying as they are, there is always that thought in the back of your mind that the next one could be a nugget. Well fortunately when you think like that sooner or later you have to be right and this was the case when I pulled a beautiful coarse 1.8 gram piece from around 4 – 5 inches deep.
The GPZ 7000 is yet to let me down with its ability to lock on to targets and further make my transition to gold an enjoyable one. I am finding this detector a great machine and highly recommend it for its ease of use and ability to find gold. I wrote in my last blog that my confidence was growing every time I take the GPZ 7000 out and I stand by that because the size of nuggets I’m finding is growing as well.
I have planned another trip to Victoria now as a couple of mates have got their GPZ7000’s and invited me over for a swing with them. Maybe this trip will land me my biggest nugget yet and another story to tell. Stay tuned for my next blog…
