Collided Bullets

23 Apr 2018

On March 25 2018 myself (Lee H. Cole) and Bubba Burgess and Bryan Morrow stumbled on a Civil War skirmish/camp site just outside of Lebanon Mo. We had a very good day that day, we dug a lot of bullets and buttons and spur parts and other miscellaneous Civil War artifacts. But one thing I dug was very surprising to say the least. Collided bullets! Everybody that is in to relic hunting for Civil War artifacts that has had this in their hands has 100% agreed that it is in fact collided bullets. I have shown multiple relic hunting veterans while out east this spring for the spring JGD dig and one of the spring DIV digs and they were blown away. The bullets are nose to nose and not melted. They were found with a Minelab EQUINOX 800 at almost pinpointer depth (8-9 inches) I understand that it can never be 100% proven that these bullets collided during a skirmish, but I’m at a loss for how else it could have happened. I have only been metal detecting since December of 2016 so I showed a lot of diggers this bullet to make sure I was on the right track. Several people have suggested I send pictures of this in with a brief description of how it was found. I have attached multiple pictures of the bullet and pictures of the other stuff we have dug at the site. *side note* In the one picture of all the stuff still dirty on the tailgate, the collided bullets are in the lower left of that picture. At the time I took that picture I still didn’t realize what it was I had.
