The day we all hope will come

17 Feb 2019

Been hunting with the EQUINOX 600 since early 2018. Try to get out as often as work and home life allows. I recently bought a GoPro to start documenting finds after seeing so many cool videos of people doing so. This morning here in New York was in the mid 30's but only had about a 1 1/2 hours to go out before I had to take my son to a birthday party. So unfortunately I rushed out the door to meet my brother at an area that has produced several late 1700's to early 1800's coins and buttons. The place has not been giving up as much lately but figured we'd give it another try. I found a place in the woods where there was a slight depression in the ground where possibly a house once stood. The first 30 minutes did not produce much other than shotgun shells and iron targets, until I hear a solid 16 coming up but also some scratchy tones as well. I swing the detector 90 degrees and sweep again and still hear and see the TDI coming up at 16. I start to dig a plug thinking maybe it's just another shotgun shell and all of a sudden I take another scoop of soil with my hands and see the glimmer of gold on edge. In shock, I wipe off some soil and there is my first gold coin being an 1851 2 1/2 Quarter Eagle in phenomenal shape. I tell my brother which is only 10 yards away to get over here and see this. I reached in my coat pocket to grab some water spray to clean off the most beautiful coin I've ever dug. Such an amazing feeling that I wish all detectorists can feel one day.
