Heavy Hole on a Rocky Beach

15 Mar 2019

It started as just another beautiful day on the heavily hunted California beach, until I came across a target that seemed to be three feet across. Most seem to dismiss these large targets as junk. I slowed my sweep way down and discovered that it was actually many targets of varying metals! The gap between the rock masses had formed a natural sluice box to collect the heavies. I began to extract them one by one and soon realized there were just too many, so I changed my strategy to tossing scoops of beach gravel onto the exposed bedrock areas and then scanning each scoopful until no more signals showed up. Over the course of two afternoons I pulled approximately twelve pounds of old lead fishing sinkers, many bullets, a couple rusty ferrous items, four coins and one 14 karat white gold earring, complete with all eleven diamonds out of that three foot round hole! That EQUINOX 800 is amazing on a salty beach! The photos show part of the finds retrieved.
