First coin with the Equinox

16 Nov 2019

Hello all, bought the Equinox 800 a few weeks ago, like alot what I seen about it on YouTube. Got the chance to take it out in the field for the first time with me my dad and brother'n'law. Before we went out I joke with them how theres a Spanish Reale out there waiting to be found. Finally got out there, this field is the site of an old home site from the early 1800's, it's a site we've hit hard for years, yet every year it seems to surprise us. Well we finally got there, got the Equinox all set up and ready. Made my way over to what we call the debris field, started scanning around, then I got this signal. It was about 20/21, I said that's a coin, its gotta be. Took my shovel and cut the hole, pulled the plug out, there it was. Coated in dirt didn't know exactly what it at first, but I knew I found something good. Hollered at everybody to come here and see this, I started to rub the rim of it, to my surprise it was silver, then I started seeing dimples on the rim, I said it can't be. Flipped it over and started rubbing the center of it then a castle came out, I jumped up and said, Its a dog on 8 Reale. Date came out to be 1805. I ran and did my victory circle, I was happy as can be.

Later that day we got back to the house, got the coin out and started running it under water, carefully rubbing it with a soft toothbrush. First thing we noticed there was an X right over the king. Was thinking maby someone tested the silver content or they didn't like the king, next thing we notice was the chop Mark's, wow this thing has been all over the place. Rubbed it a little with some lemon juice and rinsed it off. Next thing I wanted to do was weigh it to make sure it wasn't a fake, got the scale out, looked up what Spanish 8 Reales are suppost to wiegh, 27 grams, dropped the coin on the scale. 26.98, it was real. Was very happy with the way the Equinox performed this is a sight that has been hammered for years.
