A Roman numberplate?

07 Jun 2015

I was driving around when I spotted a farmer which was digging on his field in a little canal. I asked him if i could search the mud an sand that he put on the grass. It was ok, but not successful, until late in the evening when i walked to the trench he dug . I held the disc in the water on the fresh dug bottom of the trench, and got a signal 36 on the safari. The sand was very wet and digging was terrible, but the signal was too good to leave it out there. I put away the safari and tried to dig with my hands , I was reaching down in the wet sand with my arm until i couldn’t go any further. Then after half an hour I felt something, an pulled it up. It was already dark and the shape was of an numberplate but it had little holes om the edges. In my car i saw the find for the first time and realized it was a very old find. It was later determined as an roman copper(bronze) binding of a strongbox or a chest . It was in a perfect condition. a great find, at about 70cm deep. I love my safari. greetings
