A bit of Saxon for Christmas!

23 Dec 2015

It was a windy, but mild (thankfully!) morning and I had headed off to one my sites with my dad to try my luck out in the fields!! I've only had my etrac (affectionately known as "Will" after the first coin I found with him!) since May but I simply love it! My dad dropped me off to start detecting and within 20 minutes my etrac was giving me a lovely, solid mid-tone signal. I began digging and in a few moments a small silver coin was sitting in the soil I had removed. A smile spread across my face as I recognised the markings on the coin - it was a stunning porcupine sceat! Encouraged by this early find, I started working the field up and down and managed to winkle out a first for me - a full Henry II penny (moneyer Clement, Winchester Mint) in lovely condition. I contacted my dad over the radio to let him know and he came to have a look. I also asked him if he would like to see the nice "button" I had found earlier, presenting him with my sceat and watching him start grinning at my joke :) I was also lucky enough to find two saxon pin heads that day, a particular favourite of mine and I enjoy adding new types to my collection when they come along - it must be a lady thing! All in all a nice bit of saxon (and medieval) just in time for Christmas! :) Settings: multi conductive tones, fast on, deep on, manual sensitivity at 28
