My husband and I have been detecting together for 9 happy years now, he finds gold, I don't! Well that is until now! We decided to go to an organised dig today 23/08/15 as usual I am excited to maybe find silver, as that has been the norm for me!
Once on the field we nearly always stay close to one another, but on this occasion john ( my husband ) strays off to my right, so I just carry on! The soil was dry but in the near distance I see what looks like dark soil in the shadow of the hedgerow, I head over and start detecting the darker soil, it was quiet but easy going so I continued! in a world of my own, I was relaxed and daydreaming away as I normally do when the soil is quiet, alas I got a nice deep low conductive tone ( a good tone ) with an ID of 10. Not really expecting anything out of the ordinary I flicked the soil and then bent down to pinpoint the target, as I did my eyes fixed on a little gold ring, I dropped the pinpointed in shock/excitement and sat back and looked at it in disbelief! I then looked round to see if john was near, he was in the far distance, a good friend of ours was 15 metres away so I called him over, by which time I had picked up the ring! I was shaking as Jamie approached, his reaction was over whelming! He gave me a hug and congratulated me on finding a medieval gold ring! Medieval? I said
Wow!
Before long I had a group of detectorists all coming to see my gold find ( news sure does spread fast on the field ) congratulating me on finding something so small, perfect, old and GOLD! When everyone disbursed, and I was alone with the ring I found myself wondering...... Who wore this? How did they lose it? What where they doing? My mind was boggled! So with a smile and after my moment of reflection I put the beautiful little ring in to my special finds tin and carried on my day! This time I had a little spring in my step! I now keep saying to my husband..... 'I can find gold too!' If I don't find another gold item for a year or two I don't mind! I had my moment and I'll never forget it!
