2oz slug

02 Aug 2018

On Sunday the 29/07 I had organized a day trip with my mate matty back to a spot in vic that I had found a week earlier on a solo mission. I got a few multi grammers that day so matty and I returned hoping to get a few more. We actually spent most of the day patch hunting looking for the source that fed the gully we were working. We didnt have any luck so back to the gully we went. Just as the light was beginning to slowly disappear over the hills I got a beautiful sounding low-high signal. I began digging and at about the 6-8" mark, out popped a 3 grammer. There was still a really strong low-high in the hole. After digging down another foot or so with the help of my best mate matty a large target was out of the hole. A few handfuls of dirt later, I felt and then saw a nice chunk of gold. A 2oz slug! We celebrated together for a number of minutes chucking the chunk to each other with a few celebratory choice words slipping out. After giving it a quick clean we realised that it's quite a special piece. It's quite reefy, has a fair bit of crystalline formations and some host rock still attached in spots along with a splash of ironstone. Here are some pics before and after its acid bath. Stoked I got to share this moment with my best mate and I hope he gets one this weekend.
