Emil Nygård

C&T — Finland

Bio

Emil first got into metal detecting 20 years ago when he tagged along with his father when he was detecting the fields and forests of his home village. Nearly ten years ago, he started detecting more seriously when he teamed up with Joel Jokelainen. They quickly became friends due to our shared hobby while studying for their Geology degrees. During this time, they started their YouTube channel called the True Vikings, named after their Finnish Viking ancestry. Since then, they have made several international trips every year to hunt for treasure, just like the Vikings did. They made a memorable find in England during their first trip, a 500-year old Gold Angel coin. Since that, they have taken trips to Germany, Denmark, the USA, Canada, and more. His top find is a silver coin stash from the Viking age, consisting of 30 coins and found in a forest in Finland. That discovery rewrote the history of the county. That’s the aspect he finds most intriguing about this hobby. It is discovering the forgotten past that would otherwise forever remain unknown.
