From Forgotten to Forever: Returning a Championship Ring

I went out to a dried-up swimming hole to try metal detecting for the second time. I only had a few minutes to spare. I dug up a few bottle caps and random trash, and was just about to leave when I hit another signal.

I started digging and at first thought I’d found a piece of pipe. But after pulling it out of the ground, I realized it wasn’t pipe at all — it was a gold ring.

Not just any ring — a Phoenix H.S. Baseball State Championship Ring.

I hurried home, cleaned it off, and messaged the school. I’m actually a former student of Phoenix High School myself. I learned from the coach that the ring had belonged to Drew Pierson, who sadly passed away a few years after graduating. The school’s scoreboard was even named after him.

I returned the ring to the school so it could be given to Drew’s parents, who had since moved away. I gave it to the school officer — who, as it turns out, had played on the same team as Drew.

I’m happy to say that the ring is now back where it belongs — with Drew’s parents.
