I bought my first detector, a GPX 5000 in September 2012 and haven't had the chance to use it as I am always busy with my full time job.
In December, I got it out from the cupboard and took it along to our rural area in the Kalahari desert over the weekend to give it a try. I went out to the ground on Friday afternoon and didn't have much luck for the day.

I was told by my friends to buy the Minelab GPX 5000 machine and I am so happy that I bought my Minelab GPX 5000.
I have been looking for gold in the fields for many years and have never been lucky to find such a large nugget.

Winner of Find of the Month - December 2012
Minelab came to the area that we have many small miners looking for gold using panning with wind. Minelab wanted to show the miners how the metal detector works. After showing them how it works, I took the X-TERRA 705 Gold Pack to use in the area they have been working in now for over 3 weeks and have not found that much gold. We know that the gold is there as others have found gold nearby.

My name is Mamady Kamara. I found 276 grams in 1 week with my new GPX 5000. I used to own Minelab X-TERRA 705 Gold Pack. With profit made from gold finds with that machine I was able to purchase the GPX 5000. See picture of me with 276 grams of gold!

I would like thanks Minelab for the best products, I’m South Sudanese by nationality. Living in Ouagadougou Burkina Faso as a refugee, GPX 5000 and GPX-4500 are the wonderful and best metal detectors I came across. I received a lot of phone calls and inquiries by my friends concerning the metal detector, some friends bought GPX-4500 7 in South Sudan, 3 in Chad, 2 here in Burkina Faso, 2 in Niger and still many of friends always asked me how good the detector is and they are planning to buy more.
One friend bought and asked me that his father buried some gold...

This 1 118 gram gold nugget was found 30cms deep in red iron stone rubble. The nugget is impregnated with very small quartz fragments as can be seen in the photo. The edges of the nugget are rounded off and smooth. It was nestling next to a large granite boulder in relatively flat ground with no hills in the close vicinity. The area has produced one other large nugget and many smaller ones ranging from 450g down to 3g.

I purchased my first metal detector in 1999. It was not a Minelab detector and results of this machine were not so impressive and hence made me look for a more powerful machine and that was Minelab XT18000 and I purchased it in 2000. I am aware of several companies that produce metal detectors but I never bought any machine from them since my friends who have such machines never recovered the money they paid for them. They are simply ineffective.
