GO-FIND Some Treasure at the Beach!

15 Jun 2015

Family time at the beach is a lot more fun for the Drayton’s, thanks to the new GO-FIND Series of detectors from Minelab. It was always a little awkward, going to the beach and bringing along my metal detector, treasure hunting alone, while my wife and daughters did their own thing. Finally we have a metal detector that our whole family can use and join in the treasure hunting fun.

My two beautiful trainee pirates, Katya 11 (left) and Anya 14 (right), took a shine to my new GO-FIND 40 the minute they clapped eyes on it.

Unlike my other Minelabʼs, with many advanced control and options, Anya and Katya can easily use and operate the new lightweight, compact and versatile GO-FIND. This is great news for my wife Jennifer, who has three times as many chances of returning home from the beach with jewellery! The GO-FIND now has a place in the beach bag, for future family trips to the beach. My first Treasure Talk blog about this new metal detector is therefore a joint family collaboration, our findings from trips to the beach using this fun metal detector.

Apart from the lightweight and compact aspects of the GO-FIND, the ease of use cannot be overstated, especially with the built-in automatic ground balance. After turning on your metal detector, there are really only three easy choices for treasure hunters to make using any GO-FIND model:

  • Selecting FIND Icons
  • Adjusting Sensitivity
  • Pinpointing Targets (GO-FIND 40/60 only)

Treasure hunting at the beach or inland does not get any easier than that!

Selecting FIND Icons: select the targets you want to recover by pressing which icons you want to remain on the screen. In other words, each target icon has a level of discrimination you can choose to accept or reject depending on the amount of digging you want to do. From left-to-right, you can accept or reject iron targets, lower denomination coins, aluminium junk or higher denomination coins. The good news is you can avoid digging most common junk targets at the beach without missing high value gold or silver targets.

Gary D tip: You can avoid digging iron by removing the first icon and still detect low grade 10 K gold jewellery.

Adjusting Sensitivity: lower or raise the sensitivity of your GO-FIND by pressing the up/down Sensitivity buttons. Each GO-FIND model can easily be adjusted to operate without false signals at the beach. This is especially welcome news to people who want to search for jewelry and coins close to the water. The waterproof search coil and adjustable sensitivity allow you to search where many other expensive metal detectors cannot.

Anya D tip: Lower your Sensitivity control by two or three levels for smooth operation in the wet sand.

Pinpointing Targets: press the Pinpoint button to help you pinpoint targets faster. The GO-FIND has both audio and visual aids to help you locate and recover targets easier and faster. The loudest target audio response and orange pinpoint lights help to make pinpointing targets a breeze. (GO-FIND 40/60 only)

Katya D tip: The pinpointing sweet spot is always underneath the center of the search coil.

In my opinion, the GO-FIND detectors raise the bar for what an introductory and affordable metal detector can do. From my experiences with showing people how to metal detect at the beach, the GO-FIND is equal to more expensive metal detectors designed for advanced users that struggle on saltwater beaches. I know our family will always have a GO-FIND handy, just in case an unexpected treasure hunting opportunity arises.

This beautiful silver ring was recovered by Katya on a local beach in the wet sand at low tide.

Finally, a Drayton family Treasure Talk blog would not be complete without a…

Jennifer D tip: Buy the whole family a GO-FIND to fill your jewellery box up a lot faster!
