The best possible morale boost!

23 Oct 2016

I'm currently counting down to my second total knee replacement operation at the beginning of December and as a result of this, my metal detecting outings have been few & far between for some months due to my needing fairly even terrain to work. I was really happy when a detecting buddy invited me for a session on one of his farm permissions as it had been seeded & rolled so it was flat & easy for me to hobble around on with my knackered knee. The field that we hit was known to have produced a fair number of Roman bronze coins and sure enough we were happily digging up small bronze discs virtually from the start of the session. Neither of us expected what my CTX 3030 with its 17x13 inch coil located at around 7 inches depth...........a slightly misshapen tiny medieval gold & sapphire ring with a chevron & pellet engraved design weighing a mere 1.23 grams. We were able to show it to the landowner before we left; he & his wife are really pleased to see it. On returning home I did some research on the internet & have worked out that the ring dates to between 1250 & 1400AD so it's one for the UK treasure process and it's really put a spring back in my arthritic steps!
