My First Gold Coin - by Graham

29 Jan 2016

Went out on a Sunday club dig with Hammered Hunters in Derby UK. Run by Tony Howard and Paul Parnell .Very wet conditions, Mud up to top of our wellies in some places . We where in an area where there was a lot of old medieval paths. I wasnt too sure of area as had to travel 50 miles from where i live but took some good advice from Tony that morning and he showed me where the pathways where that led up to an old public inn. Tony said he will join me in that area when he got sorted . So went straight to the spot right next to an old single track road and started down that edge and within first 10 yards , Boom, i had a great signal with my Safari, dug up a very nice Henry 7th silver hammered. Tony joined me there and we spent another hour before i decided to move to next field. Spent a couple hours there with about another 5 people along the edge of the road and then hit a very week signal. Dug this and out pops a full gold sovereign , George 4th 1825. My first gold after just 18 months detecting. Very happy man! We went back the following week and another person dug out a half sovereign. Great area and i will never forget that day.
