I found a WWI medal using my Minelab Explorer XS in a field in Burton, Rossett six months ago. After some research, I found out that the medal was given to a man called Frederick Morgan and he was in the in the Shropshire Light Infantry, regiment number 16409. The inscription on the side of the medal was ‘The Great War for Civilisation 1914-1919’. I went to the local paper to get my story published and try to chase whose family it belonged to. After a couple of days, I had a phone call from a man called Tony who said that he had found the family of whom the medal belongs too. I met with them and returned the medal. They said Private Morgan died in 1982 and had originally two medals. They could not believe I found one of them in a field after all these years! Read the story here.
With it being the 100th anniversary of WWI, it means a lot to me and the family. I could not have done this without Minelab. I love Minelab! I think it's time to get a new machine and see what else is down on that field – maybe I can find the second medal!
