Started off as a regular day, as my father and I were trying a new spot we've never been before. We pass a hole that someone had obviously worked very hard on. Dug about 3 feet (~1 meter) to bedrock, and about 9 feet x 9 feet (3x3 meters) wide. As my dad and I pass the hole I told him, "don’t even try it, you know everyone and their grandma has detected this hole" cause it was about 1 foot from the road. We detected a good 5 hours, making a loop. We were getting tired and sore from walking in a loose and rocky wash (dry river bed). We found no gold, and of course we were bummed out. *I had a very good feeling that day too*
As we were walking back to the truck we stop at this same hole again... and I proceeded to say: "you know what, I bet you everyone and their grandma SAYS that everyone and their grandma has detected this hole, and no one has ever done it, because everyone thinks that" so I reluctantly jump in the hole and fire up the GPX. After about 20 seconds, I pick up a target... I dig it up and it’s a screw. So I instantly knew that no one has detected this hole cause they would’ve taken it out with them!! After about another 30 seconds of swinging, I check under a massive 1,500 (~650kg) pound rock that’s propped up against the side of the wall. I manoeuvre my coil under this rock and the GPX is screaming. I think it’s another piece of trash, but dig it up anyway. I use my pinpointer and clean off all the surface dirt away. It’s still screaming and it still there!!! I start to pry with my screwdriver and out pops this dirty, flat, ugly looking piece of metal. Thought it was a shot bullet that somehow ended up in this hole. I give it to my pops, he washes it with a bit of water.... and the color I’ve been waiting for finally showed up!!!! GOLD!!! 2.9 grams of AZ chunky gold!!!
Long story short.... ALWAYS check the easy spots someone else has cleared out for you, cause its possible they missed something!!!
