Kooka's Golden teddy

09 May 2017

The story of a lucky bloke and a happy wife, starts off as most hobbyists do on a weekend, plenty of trash, bullets, wire ect. However this particular weekend was far from the ordinary.

Many  times I’ve come home empty handed (of gold) and a sore back and shoulder from swinging the SDC 2300. 10 years of BMX riding has taken a toll on my body hence the reason I took up prospecting, walking through the bush sounds better than breaking bones occasionally, well falling down mine shafts wouldn't help I suppose.

So I won myself some alone time as kooka wanted her time with her sister and mother. I suppose you want to know why I call her kooka? Well if someone passed wind on an elevator let's just say she sounds like a kookaburra.

So I got off the beaten track and explored outside my usual spots, maybe another 5 mile past the black stump and over 3 hills till this one gully fancy my eye. Shallow diggings running right down this gully! Perfect for the SDC! Time to turn on natures Dyson! This gully was coated in a thick moss, not good for hearing the little targets, however I decided I would just turn on auto pilot and swing and dig every target.

That's what I did! Picking up plenty of bird shot, they give off a nice mild noise. Plenty of them to be won! If only lead prices were the same as gold! Or sinkers sold for nice sum. So this one target stopped me in my tracks like a fly in honey, it was a quiet and mild noise but it sounded more faded.

At the time I couldn't tell what a deep signal was, but the only way to learn is to jump in and try! Grabbing the pick I scrapped the moss away, it makes great cushioning for the knees by the way, swung the gold wand over it, got a bit louder. So out comes the human excavator, digging like a wombat I was! The signal was finally out of the hole! So I decided to put my hands to good use, I trained hard in kindergarten digging with with my hands so I think I could handle this one!

Well she was a loud a clear signal now! You won't believe what it was! Gold yes! But the shape is rarer than any piece of gold! It looks like a teddy bear holding a guitar! So I decided I'm going to get it put on a necklace for a anniversary present for kooka. She doesn't know this yet so don't say anything 😉.

Just proves that gold is where you find it, just gotta get out there and dig!
