First swing of 2017

04 Mar 2017

Got out swinging for first time of 2017 on 19th of February. Typically there is still snow and frozen ground here in Iowa during that time of the year. Temp was in the 60's and could dig relatively far down as needed, had been a mild winter. Choice of location was a corn field where I had amazing success last spring, where I dug many firsts, including a 1853 Liberty one dollar gold coin.

I had my E-TRAC in two tone ferrous listening for good tones amongst the growling of iron. Swung for a little over two hours with nothing good to report, just typical trash that fools you at times. I decided to work my way back across the field towards my vehicle when I got a faint good tone within a loud iron growl. I hovered in that spot letting the E-TRAC lock in, with the good tone becoming more prominent. I was getting a 14-30 for a read out at 8 inches and decided to dig. Dug and popped my plug, checked my hole, still a signal, took out a little more, signal was out of the hole. Grabbed my pinpointer, located the location of the object, had to break apart a larger chunk of soil into smaller chunks and out popped the unidentified object. Heck yeah, tiny and silver ! Picked it up, took a gander and knew what I had !

The object was a 1852 Trime, my second one I had found, duplicating the same year as the one I found last spring in the same field.

Great way to start the year out!
