A friend and I had decided to get one last hunt in for the year on New Years Eve, since the weather in our area was to be in the mid 40’s. We hunted a yard and curb that I had permission to hunt and made a few finds. After hunting for awhile we moved on to another place that we had gotten permission to hunt a few weeks back, and had not hunted yet. After double checking with the homeowner we started to hunt this small yard.
I had no idea that the E-TRAC was about to pick up on what was to be my last find of the year and what would prove to be my most interesting find of the year as well. I soon came to a spot in the yard that was giving a 11-43/12-45/10-43 signal that seemed to null out on one side of the coil sweeping over the target. I had thought that it might be a coin next to iron or something of the sort, like a nail or bolt or something, so I decided to dig the target and find out since it didn’t seem to be very deep. At first I thought I had a small knob or something when I saw the round shape in the bottom of the hole. I reached in to pick it up and that’s when I realized that I had something much bigger than just a small knob. What I had grabbed a hold of was actually the end of the handle of a decorative sword that measures approximately 19” long with a 12 1/2'” blade and measuring 6” from side to side at the widest point of the handle. There are 4 small red stones in the handle, as well as etching on the blade and markings to indicate that the sword was made in Spain. We ended our hunt after that, as it was slightly uncomfortable to carry this sword around and still hunt. It was starting to get late anyway and I had some other things to do yet that day like cleaning up a big freshly dug sword. Thanks Minelab for a very memorable year and a very interesting find.
