Charles II quarter dollar

17 Jan 2017

I had done this field on a few occasions with the best find a 1745 George II copper Farthing. I had given up on the field but when out on a club dig with Toddy's digs in the borders, I dug 3 Edward hammered pennies along with a worn William III sixpence. These finds reinvigorated me and decided to give the field another try. A week later I was trying my luck, again nothing but worn coppers, until I got a beautiful "silver" tone in my headphones. When the coin broke the surface the reverse side was visible...an early Victorian florin I thought. Once I cleared the dirt, I realised it was older, much older. A Charles II Scottish Quarter Dollar that hadn't seen the light of day for 300 years was now in my excited hands.
