A rare hammered from the rough plough

22 Apr 2017

Me and my two friends decided to hit our medieval market permission that had recently been deep ploughed. Within 30 minutes, I got a nice high signal and a fragment of a hammered silver threepence of Elizabeth 1, so I knew the plough had brought up more signals. I carried on doing the lines of the plough and got another crisp high tone signal on my Explorer XS. I moved a clump of the soil and out popped probably my best and scarce hammered coin to date. It was a Commonwealth penny of England 1649-1660. I had never seen one before let alone find one. And for the XS to pick such a tiny coin up on the rough plough I was amazed. Thanks Minelab!
