A "Nest" of Targets

03 Jan 2015
Find of
the Month

This is certainly the instinct that led me to detect along the tow path along the canal dug in 1827 to feed with coal the power steam engines for weaving factories in the city and also to provide them with wool and linen. On Sunday, after a hard week; workers spent the day near the canal fishing or swimming with their family.

I have prepared my CTX3030 and some small plastics bag numbered to better locate and classify my future finds using the CTX3030's GPS capabilities.

On site, an old gentleman fascinated to know what I was doing with this "thing", questioned me. So I explained to him that I was reliving the past. He told me, he had bathes in this area when he was 10 years old, and it dates back to ….hoo! .... I can't believe how fast the time has flown by.... it was during the war ... almost 70 years ago!

After several samples in different areas near the canal, I came across a "nest" of targets. Indeed, if you look at the map drawn through FindPoint recorded by the CTX3030's GPS, you can feel the concentration of objects found on a distance of about 120 meters! More than 160 coins, some dating back to Napoleon III (1853), through the period of the 2nd World War with the famous perforated coins, to get to our time, the Franks and Euros. The majority is of French coins, but there are some Belgians and Italians (Victorio Emmanuel II - 5 cents and 10 cents - 1861) too. Almost ten rings, several medals and a few bracelets have also been discovered. At each step the CTX3030 pointed out to me one or more targets on the screen.

This region is a workers area and found objects are not made out with noble metal, so no great value, but only copper, brass, aluminum and gold plated metal.

However, a silver coin (La Semeuse) of 50 cents 1906 having a valuable collection of about 150 € made CTX3030 singing in the treble and also a nice silver ring set with false diamonds had been discovered very deep.

Do not forget the few brass buttons from navy and military insignia and guns ammunitions indicating a troubled past in this area.

The canal is a really polluted area, and very widely used by walker, fishers and jogger.

Fortunately, the CTX3030 has a small coil CTX06 Smart Coil allowed me to properly locate and discriminate often multiple targets in the same hole with nails and aluminum waste.

Thank you to Minelab team for having created a such powerful and so sophisticated device, allowing me to fully satisfy my hobby!
