3ยข Surprise

24 Sep 2016

Recently I was metal detecting with my Minelab Explorer SE Pro at a city park I have been hunting for nearly 30 years. I have pulled out nearly 1300 old coins from this park over the years but recently the finds have been in decline. My first find that day was s 1907 Liberty head (V) nickel with a bonus wheat cent stuck to it. Later in the hunt, in an area I as well as several detecting buddies have walked over dozens of times, I get a deep hit and decide to dig it. From about 8" down, I pulled out a small silver disc. I see the unmistakable image of the reverse of a silver 3¢ piece. Only the second one I have ever found. Turned out to be an 1852. What a surprise to find that tiny coin in area that's been pounded for years!
