1860 Lincoln/Hamlin Campaign Button

16 Oct 2017

I recovered an absolutely amazing piece of history last night on a road and sidewalk tear out using Minelab E-TRAC Detector. I was not sure what it was, until I got home. It said, Hannibal Hamlin 1860 on it.

I couldn't make out what was on the other side. I googled Hannibal Hamlin. Turns out, he was Abraham Lincoln's vice president. So, I cleaned up the other side of it. Sure enough, Abraham Lincoln 1860 on the other side of it. Turns out, this is their campaign button from 1860. How awesome is that!!!!??? Photography was just starting out and there were actual photographs of them on this. I am also including a non-dug example in this post. Just an amazing piece of history to find. I also found a 1905 V nickel, a coital bell, an unidentified pin, a pendant that I can't see what is on it, a 1943 Mercury dime, and a 1954 Washington quarter. Silver coins 45 and 46 for the year.
