CTX 3030 screen, polarisation and polarising effects

29 Jun 2012

A “rainbow effect” may be visible in the CTX 3030 screen under certain lighting conditions; this effect is exacerbated if wearing polarized sunglasses.

This is a common phenomenon seen in many products that have pressure sealed transparent surfaces, as shown below.

Polarisation

Protective and pressure bearing thick plastic windows have inherent lensing/polarisation effects, especially when combined with LCD screens, and a rainbow effect can appear prominent in certain lighting conditions and at certain angles.

With the CTX 3030, this effect is greatly reduced once the detector is turned on and with the Backlight also ‘ON’; there are generally minimal problems while actually detecting. On occasion a change of position in respect to the sun may be required to make the screen clearer.

We generally recommend when detecting that one has the Backlight ‘ON’ and Brightness set to ‘10’ which will minimise this effect. Note that non-polarised sunglasses can be worn if desired.
