My First Gold Sovereign

Sovereign GT

Metal Detector Finds - Gold Ring & Sovereign

I found my very first Gold Sovereign in the park the other day. This coin had a very faint high tone to it, but I thought that it sounded interesting, so I dug it. The coin was almost 9" down and was shining like a full moon at me. I was thrilled to find it.

Thanks for making a great machine Minelab.

Excalibur II Pays for Itself!

Excalibur II

Metal Detector Finds - Jewellery

Just a quick update on the new Excalibur II which I purchased on 3 April 2009. In short, the upgrade has been paid for in 3 weeks from the date I received the detector.

I have found 12 gold rings with the Excalibur II. The total weight found is 41 grams of 9kt and 20 grams of 18kt. With the current scrap gold price at ZAR 95 per gram of 9kt, that comes to ZAR 7,695. The upgrade from the Excalibur to the Excalibur II cost ZAR 5,700 so already I have made a profit of ZAR 2,000 just on the gold found!!

A Walk in the Park and a Diamond Ring

April 21, 2009 10:17am
Metal Detector Finds - Diamond Ring

Got out for a few hours with the X-TERRA 705 yesterday. First I did some target comparisons between my X-TERRA 70 & the X-TERRA 705, and then just hunted with the X-TERRA 705 for the remainder of the hunt. Two hours hunting and this diamond ring was one of the results.

The ring made my day. Usually finds of this nature are made at the beach. This is my first gold diamond ring ever at a park. 14kt with 24 - 1 point baguettes that I believe are diamonds. The X-TERRA 705 read it as a nickel (10/12 target ID but also bounced to 8 & 14). Four inches down I expected to get a nickel and was very pleasantly surprised to get the ring.
