You don't have to be a miner to find gold

06 Mar 2013

The wife and I had cabin fever bad from all the snow and frozen ground here in Rhode Island, we needed to metal detect something then my wife realized at low tide there will be ground to do, so we grabbed our CTX 3030 and started driving towards the water. We had no idea what was in store for us.

We drove over the mount hope bridge and ended up in Portsmouth R.I., at a small beach made of palm size round rocks. We were there for an hour with nothing then bang! A solid signal it was a merc.

Then we were getting cold so we were working our way towards the car, and we came across a sign that told the history of where we were and it turns out its a colonial ferry landing where farmers and tradesman waited for the ferry to Bristol R.I. to trade their goods and barter for supplies.

So we tried around for a while then my wife took a turn and she gets a repeatable 942. She pushed the rocks aside to see a yellowish orange rock as she called it. Then when she handed it to me I noticed it was way too heavy for a rock that size.

I started to polish it and it started to shine. We knew right then it could be gold. We jumped and ran around. I did the Curly 3 Stooges ground spin, jumped up, we hugged and both had tears in our eyes.

We had it tested and it was 93% gold and the rest silver, platinum and copper.

We just want to say thank you Minelab, and now my wife is getting her own CTX 3030.

This sport/hobby really brings us close and erases all the problems of the day like a day spa massage.
