Thimble

06 Dec 2013

I've only just purchased my Explorer II second hand and thought to get used to it I'd try it on some pasture fields, nice short grass easy detecting I took along some coins and a nail so that I could run a test bed and try and work out the setting on my latest detector.

So off I go setting three differ coins about 12" apart and also a nail after much swinging of the coil and trying different settings I thought I had it sorted. But on my last run over my test bed I heard another signal, it took 6 or 7 more runs before it dawned on me that there must be something in the ground so dig it I did and couldn't believe my luck when an almost perfect silver thimble popped out of the soil.

After dome research at home I discovers it's 1799 London assay office hallmarked turns out to be one of my best finds yet. Just goes to show you've got to be over it to find it.
