Summer adventure in Italy

For the summer 2013 I really enjoyed myself and I visited many beautiful places, my project was to travel through Italy from north to south and come back, my travel start alone, with my old car a Honda Crx and my new Minelab Excalibur II with the Straight Shaft. The idea was to visit many places, exploring different seas and beaches; to stop in B&B, or in camping with my igloo tent or for the last choice to stay under the stars , spending all the time of my holidays in metal detecting.

I left my city Milan on August 7 and I reached Bardolino on Lake Garda, where I met the German guys of Detectorist.eu, we camped and search in the Lake with our Minelab metal detectors for a couple of days.

Then I crossed Emilia Romagna and Marche to stop two more days in Abruzzo near Tortoreto in a lovely B & B situated on the hills, but very close to the sea.

After two days I moved to Puglia and I made a stop in Marina di Lesina where I stay two more days, then unfortunately I had some difficulty finding accommodation because hotels and campsites during the period of mid-August holiday are very full. After a long search with my smartphone I managed to find a wonderful B & B in Villa Castelli (TA), in a beautiful Mediterranean landscape with fig trees, olive trees and many animals, such as peacocks, pigs etc.

But it was very far from sea, at this point I was about 35 km from the Adriatic Sea and the same from the Ionian Sea, however, the east wind moved the Adriatic Sea, and so I went down several times on the Ionian sea, the best choice to use the Excalibur II, in fact, the sea was calm and clear, really superb seemed to be the Maldives.

I made several interesting finds, but my time was running out for the holidays. One night reading on the forum of metal detectors, I see a request for help, an engineer has lost his wedding ring into the sea, the country is Agropoli, in Campania, 300 km from my position near Taranto. So I decide to leave, I passed through Basilicata and after about 4 hours drive I arrived at destination. I met Giovanni who brings me to the place where he lost the ring, only after 3 targets I found the ring, with the applause of many swimmers who had gathered with curiosity. A local journalist wrote an article about this story by publishing it on the 'City' of Salerno. I was very happy to find it as well as its owner, who was very generous with me. I also had the opportunity to visit the beautiful 'Paestum' near Agropoli, wonderful ancient Greek city, where you can still admire the perfectly preserved Greek temples.

In conclusion, it was a nice holiday, I travel for over 3000 km, I've seen many places and known so many people from different places. The Excalibur II is an excellent metal detector, and I immediately found the right feeling. Maybe I overdid it a bit with the research, and I have some problem to the tendons of his right hand for continued use every day and for the instrument that is not exactly light. But if I had the possibility to came back I'd do it exactly the same, as I wish to do every day of my life.
