Hunting on the Outer Banks a couple years ago after we had a good northerly wind for a couple days. Got a good strong signal near the dune line. After digging down for about a foot I figured it was probably an aluminium can. To my surprise it turned out to be a large coin. It was about the size of an old US silver dollar. I could make out a few things and after I got home discovered it had a 1623 date. Doing further research it turned out to be a Patagon. In the 1600's, Patagonia was a Country in Northern Europe where present day Belgium is located. This coin was probably off of a shipwreck near that site.
