Paid with gold

16 Mar 2015

Hi all. Well my brother-in-law got the GPZ 7000 the day it came out, and as he was working, and I could not afford one yet, I said I would use his to get me the money to buy one.

So the first day I head out to a spot where I had got a few bits in the past, strap it on, and head off. With-in five min's had my first signal, very small, near the surface I thought. Well, I dug about 10 inches of top soil off and hit solid rock and the signal was still there. I spent about 45 more minutes in 40 degree heat and had to leave it there, the first time in 20+ years I had left a signal behind.

The next morning, still suffering from digging rock, I headed out to a area that has been hammered for years by every man and his dog, strapped on, walked about 50 steps wondering where to go when I got a nice signal. Rubbish for sure this time I thought, but I will dig it anyway to get some practice pinpointing with this new coil set-up. So I dig down maybe 6 inches, and the signal is still there. So I take out another few inches......still there. So I had to get serious, bench out the hole, make it bigger to get the coil in, still there. Well to cut a hour long digging story short, at about 2 and a half feet, chunk, I hit a bit of quartz at the very back of my now impressive hole. After a bit of playing I pop it out of the clay, a 12 ounce specie, riddled with gold. The total gold content was 5 and a half oz.

Now back to that first signal I got the day before. So my brother-in-law asks me 4 days later if I can give him directions to where I hit rock, he wanted to take my sister and their 2 young kids out for a play, and he would take a jackhammer out in case there was something there. I had to work I got home about 7:30 at night and their not home. About 8:15 my sister comes over with her phone and says "watch this". They are down around 2 feet and have put the 4500 together and are sticking it in the hole and it's screaming off its nut. I sad where is it and she said "it's still there, we had to leave it and come home". So now I panic, grab the in-law and drive back out there. It took about 10 more minutes of jackhammering and out came this chunk of ugly rock that was making the signal. After dollying it up we got 2 more ounces. So after 10 minutes detecting and 2 hours digging, I now had 7.5 ounces, more than enough for the new GPZ 7000. Gotta love it when a plan comes together.
