Lifelong dream find

30 Mar 2015

I was attending DIV XXX in Brandy Station, Culpepper, VA. I was always discussing with my hunting buddies how my dream find would be an ID tag or ID disc of a Civil War soldier. First day of the hunt I was in an area that was already attacked by other hunters who were finding buttons and bullets. I had already found about 5 bullets by mid-day when I got this great low tone on the GPX 5000. I dug into 8 inches of dirt and pulled out a medium size nail. When I checked the hole I still has the same signal and it sounded great. When I finally removed more dirt (down to about 10 inches) this gray looking coin was looking at me straight in the face. I jumped thinking it was a token or even better, a seated half dollar. Nope!!! None of the above, but instead turned out to be the most incredible find of my life. A union civil war soldiers pewter ID disc in awesome condition. The soldier's history was unimaginable for an ID disc, which included the 7 days war, Antietam, Bull Run and Fredricksburg. I am still on cloud 9 a weeks later. My most precious find, Thank you Minelabs, your detectors ROCK!!!!!!!!
