Jackpot

17 Apr 2015

The scene was set. Great weather, some free time before work, research done, the perfect opportunity to go out for my first ever coin detecting trip. I had hired a CTX 3030 and headed to my first stop, a landing ground for some of our founding explorers. Wasn’t long before the CTX started to sing. The excitement rose higher and higher until yet another ring pull, and another...... I kept reassuring myself that this trip was all about education and learning the detector and not to expect any more. New location and a couple of dollars in loose change showed up. Time was ticking away and night shift at work approached. I had just enough time to hit the road and visit some old convict areas i had read about. Finally arriving i jumped out of the car, hit the bush track keen to find a button at least! Finally heard a very different tone come from the CTX and then couldn’t get it back! I started to walk off in frustration but decided to stick with it. After 15mins i heard it again and this time got the Minelab Pro Pointer onto it. Well, under about 2 inches of dirt up against a small shrub i extracted this little ripper from 1858. Well i didn't know if i should dance, jump, sing all shout with joy! First trip out and just when i was ready to call it a day it felt like i hit the jackpot with this small historical find.
