I awoke early on the very last day of our holiday and lay there trying to decide whether or not to grab the Safari out of the car and hit the beach for a few hours before the wife and kids got up. Unfortunately I had left it until the last day to try and get some detecting done so I decided to force myself out of bed and make the short journey to the beach. I noticed a large section of beach had been washed away right down to the rocky under layers of the beach and thought maybe that is where the old rings would have settled. Within 15 minutes or so I found my very first Hammered coin. A French Double Turnois Coin, King Louis XIII dated 1639. Wonderful!
