Confederate Button

Success Story

My Dad and I both use Minelab E-TRACs and go out detecting. We often times film our hunts and put them on YouTube. One day as my Dad and I were out detecting we went to an old empty lot in the center of town. The neighbor across the street told us that there was a very old house there at one time but it was moved. We got out our detectors and started hunting! One after another we started getting silver signals. All in all after 3 trips there we ended up getting 17 total silvers from this property. (Including a 1923 Peace Dollar!).

Probably the best find was a button about 10" down. It gave off a 12-46 and I thought I had a deep silver quarter. When I felt it in the hole I was disappointed because I thought It was just going to be another WW2 button. As I brushed away the dirt staring at me was a Palmetto Tree! I knew instantly I had found a Civil War Confederate Button! The button was in perfect shape and the shank was still attached just bent over. I could not believe it. The backmark pre dates it to the civil war. (SCOVILLS & CO. : 1840-1850). This was one of our best spots and I couldn't have done it without the E-TRAC. It goes to show it's great for Silvers AND Relics!

Thanks Minelab!
