Clasped hands-ring

18 Nov 2014

All my life I dreamed of finding traces of the Vikings on my farm. There is a lot in nature and the environment that indicate ancient settlements. When I finish my search Sunday. 16.11.2014. for the evening, I got a pretty exciting audio signal on my Minelab X-TERRA 505 and decided to dig this up. My heart almost stopped when I finally saw the ring and knew instantly what this was. Such rings are known since Roman times, and this is special with runes and Latin letters. It is now delivered to the Bergen Museum's archaeologists and it is estimated to originate from about 1000-1300's Wow what a hobby. I believe that we as metal detectors could help piece together our history by finding these little puzzle pieces. We can also find what our ancestors through the centuries have lived and existed there. Facts about the ring. The origins of the fede or “clasped hands” ring goes back to antiquity. In Roman times this type of ring was often referred to as Concordia – a reference to Concord, the goddess of harmony who was worshiped as the bringer of marital harmony. From the 12th through the 17th century it was a fairly common form of marriage ring and occasionally employed as a ring that represented friendship. Most were in silver or silver gilt, few in gold.
