A game changing day

12 May 2015

GeofunMW aka Mike is a new member on the Official Canadian Metal Detecting forum and he contacted me the one day asking where could he go to make some of the sweet coin finds I have been making. I gave him 3 or 4 spots to hit and then asked if he would like to meet up and hunt together. YES PLEASE was his answer. He tells me that he had been detecting for the better part of 2yrs up at Cold Lake Alberta and that he is a fireman with the military, at least that is what he said while pouring water on my coil to try to get me to slow down. I was pulling pennies out of thin air for a while. Mike did manage to find his first ever silver. A silver dime WTG Mike. My day started out with the first target being a junk ring and the next being a silver ring. I was off to a great start. The next keeper was a sterling signet ring. The silver coins then started to flow into the pouch. A 1952 dime followed by a 1910 Right after the 1910 dime I had a a totally goofy signal as it was a mix of foil and high tones but you know my motto. "If I don't know what it is dig it up". a 14K ring was sitting on top of a twist cap. Then came the first of 2 George the 5th dateless dimes so 1911-1936. Then a 1960 and a 1919 dime. At this point I had turned away from the productive area and thought to myself WHY and turned around. The very next target was a pull tab signal but deeper than normal. It was showing at 7" one way and 8" the other. I had already dug my share of tabs today But thought whats one more. So what was that pull tab target? Was it my first love token? Or was it my first gold coin? After the gold coin/love token I finished up the day with a 1910 little nickle, the second of the faceless George the 5th dimes, a 1964 and 1960 dimes. Days later and I still have a big grin on my face. Here's everything all cleaned up. 9 silver coins, 2 silver rings, 1 gold ring and a 1901 US$5 gold coin that has been made into a love token.
