Last weekend I decided to detect an old park built in the 1800's. I only took a few steps from the car and got a shallow quarter signal. After retrieving it and a few steps forward I got a nice deep 12:45 signal. Popped the plug and at the bottom was silver! The coin was covered in dirt and I did not want to rub it so I put it away in the car. I ended up finding another silver dime (Mercury) and 4 Indian head pennies. After I got home I decided to rinse off the dirt off the first dime. As the dirt washed away a beautiful 1897 date appeared. I turned the coin over and it had a mint mark O! The coin is in extra fine condition with a sharp Liberty and only 666,000 were struck! Thanks for looking & Happy Hunting!
