Northern California Relic Hunter Makes a Surprising Find

Lisle, IL: On a recent outing with friends in Northern California, Ron Swenson grabbed his Minelab CTX 3030 metal detector to take to the fields to search for treasure.

Swenson and friends are metal detecting hobbyists who document their relic searching adventures to share with other metal detecting enthusiasts on a YouTube channel. In January, Swenson visited a historical site in Northern California that has been prospected for many years.  Swenson has found jewelry and other relics through the years metal detecting but was in for a surprise when his Minelab CTX 3030 started to ring he and he started to dig. After digging in the soil, approximately six inches down, Swenson unearthed a discovery that was more than he had ever expected.

“A couple buddies and I have been using our Minelab detectors to relic hunt gold country gold camps and home sites. Many of these sites have been considered "hunted out" but the Minelab CTX 3030 is opening them back up and we are unearthing some amazing relics and coins. On a recent hunt near an 1850's home site and hotel, I got a deep hit on the CTX 3030 and down about 6 inches; I saw the edge of a gold item. At first I thought maybe a ring, but as I wiped more dirt away I realized that I was looking at a huge gold nugget. I called my buddies over and we removed it from its hiding place as we all watched and enjoyed the moment. We captured the entire dig on video and I finally got into the 1 ounce gold nugget club with my CTX 3030!” Swenson wrote to Minelab.

The Minelab CTX 3030 metal detector is an all-terrain, waterproof metal detector featuring an integrated GPS system, full color display and an advanced target trace discrimination to locate finds in all types of ground conditions.  Users can also track their finds, hunt locations and upload photos onto their computers using Minelab’s patented X-Change 2 software.
