Silver Ring Trifecta! A personal first!

07 Jul 2014

It always happens like this, your heading back to the rig and something catches your eye. This hunt was no different. Having been given exclusive digging rights to an old historical site was excitement in itself. The possibilities of what can be found alone were enough to make me race to the place and get digging! A new playground had also been built just weeks before so I wanted to check that out as well. I spent about 3 hours at the site without finding anything of any real age. I started to draw the conclusion that a lot of back fill had been brought in tho level things out so tourist would have an easier time viewing the mining displays. But hey, sometimes that's the way it goes. The last thing I noticed was a large Birch tree with large lower branches parallel to the ground standing alone by itself on the lower part of the site. First thing I thought was, if I was a kid, I’d be climbing that tree for sure! As I started detecting around the base, I got a quarter signal on my Minelab X-TERRA 705 telling me my suspicions might be correct. The target was real shallow and signal very bright. When I gently pried the plug back I could see a ring with an Amber bezeled stone showing.

It also had a marking inside the band stamped Silver .925. I threw it into my side pouch and rechecked the spot getting another 42 signal. This time a silver ring with 2 dolphins jumping over the waves came out of the plug about 3" to the left of the first ring ! By this time I could have left the site happy as a clam but I still had another half of the base of the tree to finish. I found a couple quarters, a dime and nickle further on until I almost reached the point where I had started. Again I got a quarter signal over what looked like a patch of moss. As I'm knelling down I notice the outline of yet another ring! I picked it up, and to my surprise, it was a second Amber and sterling ring with the same markings inside as the first. I think it was the same person who lost all 3 rings. The 2 Amber rings look vintage, from around the 70's and the dolphin ring more modern. It was then that it hit me I had found my first silver ring trifecta! That was it for me. I headed home with half an ounce of silver to show for and a very happy wife. She always gets the good stuff!
