Lost Iron Age hillfort!!!

20 Nov 2013

As a keen metal detectorist and a trustee of my local Archaeological group we stumbled upon some images with anomalies on the ground of what we believed to be an Iron Age hillfort. We arranged an Archaeological dig of the area and invited S4C to film it for their new Archaeological show that's to be aired in 2014. The dig was under way and soon became a very exciting time for us all, as we just made history by discovering a lost Iron Age hill fort, it's ramparts and the remains of a 1600s windmill. I detected the area but only came up with a few old nails and lumps of Iron. The best finds where not made with my detector but by scrapping away the soil and unearthing 9 stone pellets which would've been used in a sling shot for defense and hunting and pieces of Roman pottery.

We are due to go back there next year for a second program. Can't wait!!
