I Must "Confress" It Was a Good Find

13 Apr 2012

"You may recall Roger Vanstone who found the Vicar’s keys, well this is another of his interesting finds stories…………….I must confess it was a good find." David Rees - Wiltshire, UK On January 20th 2012 I was metal detecting with my brother Brian at a site in Wiltshire which had already turned up quite a few good finds including several hammered silver, numerous Roman coins including a silver denarius of the Emperor “Hadrian” and other interesting artefacts. The site itself was chalky soil and the grass was kept very short by the sheep which regularly grazed the area. The fields are extremely large and after detecting on quite a few of them over a period of time, there was only one field that was producing the goods on a regular basis. Concentrating on this one was giving us quite a lot of success. On this particular day we started detecting at 10.30 a.m., and as usual I was using my Minelab Explorer SE... We hadn’t found much at all in the first hour but my machine suddenly gave me a very positive signal and due to the position of the target on the screen indicated to me that it may be a small silver coin.
