First hunt with the E-TRAC is a complete success!

29 Dec 2013

I was very surprised with my first hunt with the E-TRAC. Before this hunt I had never used a Minelab metal detector. I went to this old park that's been completely hammered by metal detectors of all brands ever since metal detectors were made. No one hunts it anymore (besides me) because everyone believes it to be completely "hunted out". I took my new E-TRAC out not really expecting to find anything. I just knew that there were a few deep old coins left at this place, and I wanted to get a feel for the way the E-TRAC operates. I was very surprised on how easy this machine detects coins at depths that are almost impossible for me to reach with other detectors I've used. They sound very nice and clear too!

Initially after my hunt was over I thought all of my good coins were the ones I found in the first picture however, after a week or so I had a closer look at a big chunk of rusted iron that I had found directly above the 1897 liberty nickel.

I noticed that one of the edges were a bit rounded, so I started breaking it apart, and immediately saw a small silver reeded edge! I found out that that chunk of rusted iron was actually a small metal coin purse that was lost along with that Liberty nickel! I was very excited. After an hour or so of electrolysis I ended up with another barber dime, another liberty nickel, and 2 more Wheaties!! All in all that's: 3 barber dimes, 3 V nickels, 1 Indian Head Penny, and 10 wheaties! All in my first 2 hours of using the E-TRAC, when all I was hoping to do was get a feel for the machine! My next hunt I added 4 more silvers from a different site. They included 2 Mercury dimes, a Silver War Nickel, and a silver ring!

I've been so impressed with my E-TRAC that I'm currently saving up to buy my wife an Explorer!

Thanks Minelab for making such amazing machines!
