First ever permission and life time find

26 Dec 2014

On my first ever permission of a small 4 acre field I went out with my work friend for a day’s detecting, it was slow to start off with and found a few old buttons one military and my friend also found an old WW2 aircraft tire pressure gauge with a US patent, after a few hours we took a rest for a nice cup of coffee and sandwich's and talked about the finds we had so far and what part of the field we should try next, as I am new to the hobby I had no set plan to detect the field in a certain pattern due to being so excited about being out with my new Minelab E-TRAC and on my first ever permission so we ended up deciding on the top furthest part of the field. Once we had finished our lunch we made a head start to the top of the field and got started and straight away I started to find some old copper One Pennies and Half Pennies quite old and corroded but still chuffed to bits that I had found some old coins, whilst I was busy digging under a tree root on my next signal my friend had a very good solid signal and started to dig in the same fashion a dog does whilst I muttered under my breath "what on earth is he doing?" an hour later up came many glass bottles and crockery all which where sat in a large metal pale, by this time I was rolling around at the mess my friend had now to clean up although he did find some nice bottles it amused me no end.

so off I went in search of more coins. Then I got a very solid signal and thought to myself "Oh no I've found a metal pale like my friend" so I started my dig and as it was showing not very deep I cut a shallow plug and sat at the bottom of the hole was a Gold Coin, I started to laugh uncontrollably at what I could not believe I just found and called my friend over showing him my coin whilst shaking with pure excitement it was a Gold 1853 British 22 carat Gold Victoria Sovereign, sadly it all ended there with not many more finds other than a nice old Lead Farmers token but it was all worth it just for that one coin that I still have in my collection, to me it's a find of a lifetime and could not have found it without my E-TRAC thanks for making such a brilliant machine.
